About
Babi is the visionary designer behind Sand to Sand. She graduated from Shenkar School of Art & Design in Tel Aviv, completing her studies in Industrial Design in 2019. Throughout her life, Babi has been drawn to various design fields, including interior design, illustration, and product design, and has set the focus of her multidisciplinary practice on an ecological, playful universe informed by art and design. Sand has always been an inspiration and reference for Babi throughout her life, growing up by the Mediterranean coast, sand was a constant material throughout her life. Babi’s inspiration for creating sand objects was sparked during her time living and studying in Berlin at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, Weißensee Academy of Berlin, where she discovered the "Designed to Disappear" philosophy: products designed to serve their purpose and then naturally fade away. For Babi, sand was the perfect material to embody this. Her first creation was a single-use beach toy for children, made from sand that dissolves in water within a few hours, returning to its natural environment: the beach. She began designing indoor sand objects, starting with a lucky sand coin inspired by the ancient tradition of tossing coins into fountains for luck. This coin can be thrown into the ocean, kept as a lucky charm, or appreciated as a piece of art. Describing her practice as an exploration of environmentally-friendly materials and compounds has ventured into housewares inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle and ancient traditions. Her products are made with patented technologies to carefully curate sand pieces that resonate with the Earth's gratitude.
